Potty Mouth Liar

Last week I decided to purchase training potty for Rhett. We are not potty training right now, but I thought that it might be nice to have the fixture around the house so he can see it and become familiar with it so that when we do decide to get into potty training down the road, it will be something he is used to. Before my purchase, I researched potties and learned which ones were better suited for boys vs. girls. I ultimately decided on a potty with a soft padded seat and a built-in pee guard (very important).

When we brought the potty home, I explained to Rhett that this was his new potty and we talked about how we use the potty. We put it in his bathroom and left it there undisturbed for the rest of the day. I was shocked the following day when Rhett dragged me into the bathroom to change his diaper. Had he already associated going potty with his new potty? Over the next few days we continued to casually talk about the potty if we walked by it and I noticed that Rhett was really interested in checking it out. He would lift the lid and disassemble the pieces as if he was giving it an inspection. I thought, good for him for wanting to know how it works.

Last night I walked by the potty and I noticed the lid was up. I leaned over to shut it and saw that two big bites had been taken out of the potty seat. This was a brand new potty! It was less than a week old and now there were two chunks of the missing seat sitting in the bottom of the bowl. How did this happen? I grabbed Rhett and took him into he bathroom to do a little interrogating. I asked him if he took the bites out of the potty seat. He immediately started shaking his head and said, "no." I could tell my voice was getting firm. I told him I was upset and asked him why he took two bites out of his new potty seat. He again responded with, "no mama, no." He could tell that I wasn't happy and he wasn't giving in. I asked him if he didn't bite the potty seat then I wanted to know who did. His response was clear and confident - "Papa."
