A Little Christmas Comedy
This year Rhett is old enough to start grasping some basic Christmas elements. He understands that Santa Claus brings presents to good boys and that The Elves are Santa's helpers. We have a book that we read about Elves that outlines their festive job description and to encourage his participation in the holiday season, I've been using a Christmas calendar every night to help countdown the days until St. Nick makes his big debut. The calendar is a cute little house with doors that open up for each day leading up to Christmas. Rhett has quickly learned that this calendar house is special. Not only do the doors open and shut to provide him with a few minutes of entertainment, but Santa's little spy Elf that sits on a shelf in our living room leaves "snow" (aka. mini marshmallows) for him to find. For the past six days, Rhett has excitedly anticipated the arrival of snow in the calendar house and tonight was no exception. When we opened door number seven and found a pile of marshmallow treats inside, he was once again delighted. After polishing off the last one I asked him who he thought had left him the snowy snack. He quickly told me the Elf had done it and I was pleased to see that he was grasping the Christmas concept. Then, I reminded him that maybe we should tell the Elf something to show our gratitude. I was thinking that he would practice his manners and respond with a simple thank you, but I couldn't hold back my laughter when he blurted out - "good job Elf!"
